Mr. Lovell Receives the 2015 Pushap Lata Aggarwal Award

In the Spring of 2003, the Aggarwal family established the PUSHAP LATA AGGARWAL AWARD which recognizes excellence in teaching. Every other year, teachers are nominated, a committee is formed, and a deserving teacher is selected and awarded a very generous award of $1,000 - donated by the Aggarwal family (seen below with Mr. Matthew Lovell and I).

Mr. Lovell received numerous nominations for this year's award. Below are some sentiments that colleagues, students, and parents shared about Matt:

I have never experienced a teacher/ colleague that is so truly invested in the children like this teacher.

Burlington is blessed to have this teacher and they should absolutely be recognized for their belief in our children.

has done a tremendous job of motivating his students to be excellent. Not only does he teach this, but helps them take on responsibility to teach one another. The program continues to grow, and kids can't wait to be in this High School program because of the wonderful program this teacher has developed.

His dedication to his craft  has significantly improved my daughters high school experience

Both my sons have had him- in fact both have been so inspired, that they have taken student leadership positions in the program and have worked closely with him. He exemplifies everything we want from our best teachers: he is passionate about his subject, he inspires his students with his example, and he uses his subject  as a building block for critical life lessons about cooperation, leadership, and achieving difficult tasks through combined, hard work.

I'm so glad that my sons have had the opportunity to work with him as I think he has played a determinative role in their transitions into confident, capable young men.

Far surpasses the term "excellence in teaching." His approach in mentoring students to perform out of their comfort zone while giving them the confidence to do so, is an aspect of teaching not found in any ordinary teacher. The students feel his passion for the music and his dream to see them succeed. He inspires his students, not only in music, but also in whatever they wish to do in their future outside of Burlington High School.

Brings enthusiasm, high standards, and positive "A" game to his work. In addition, he has been able to adapt and maintain fluency in the changing world of technology. In his 30 years at BHS, he has gone from the reel to reel and the rizzo machine to I-Tunes, Garage Band, and Dropbox.

He has done a tremendous job of motivating his students to be excellent. Not only does he teach this, but helps them take on responsibility to teach one another. The band continues to grow, and kids can't wait to be in the High School band because of the wonderful program he has developed.

IT WAS MY HONOR TO ANNOUNCE AT OUR FACULTY MEETING THIS PAST WEDNESDAY THAT MR. LOVELL WAS THE 2015 RECIPIENT PUSHAP LATA AGGARWAL AWARD - CONGRATULATIONS MATT!
