BHS to Expand Summer Reading Options for 2015

From the BHS English Department:

The English Department has decided to expand the list of texts that students can choose to read for their summer reading requirement, effective this year. In our initial launch of the summer reading program, we selected a single book for each grade. Moving forward, instead of having a single mandatory text, we will offer a shortlist of five titles which students can choose from. This will allow students to select a book that is more suited to their individual tastes or interests, and the texts that we have selected still connect with the themes and issues of their corresponding courses. The four original titles (Friday Night Lights, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Into the Wild, and The Handmaid’s Tale) will remain options for grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 respectively, and on this website, we will unveil our new options for each of the four grades over the next few months.
This change, unfortunately, means that we will not be able to pre-purchase copies of the texts for those who need them, as we did last year. But we will continue to help acquire copies of the texts as needed.
We look forward to revealing our new summer reading options!
