Ally Week at BHS

Inline image 1

This week marks "Be an Ally Week," a week where we can engage in a national dialogue about how everyone in and out of school can work to become better allies to LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning) youth.

The BHS Spectrum Club has planned a few great events throughout the school to celebrate the BHS LGBTQ community and its allies. You can participate in Be an Ally Week by signing the Ally Pledge during lunch in the caf, buying delicious goodies at the Spectrum bake sale on Wednesday, wearing purple on Thursday, and attending an after school party on Friday. We will be handing out rainbow ribbons in the cafeteria. If you don't have a safe space sticker for your classroom, please email me with a request for one. I will also leave a few in the mailroom.

The Ally Pledge:
I believe all students, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression deserve to feel safe and supported. That means I pledge to:

  • Not use anti-LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) language or slurs.
  • Intervene, if I safely can, in situations where students are being harassed or tell an adult.
  • Support efforts to end bullying and harassment.
  • Encourage others to be Allies.
