Science Teacher, Ms. McInerney, is taking a group of students to Costa Rica during April
break for EF Educational Tours’ Global Student Leaders Summit. This trip is a ten-day immersive, experiential learning tour of Costa Rica’s biodiversity and ecosystems, followed by a two-day leadership conference where students will learn from environmental experts, such as Vice President Al Gore, and develop key 21st century skills through a unique design thinking workshop – all geared toward training the next generation of leaders to understand and solve critical environmental issues.
In January, Ms. McInerney participated in a weekend orientation in Costa Rica along with twenty other teachers from across the U.S. and Canada who are bringing students to the Summit. After experiencing first-hand the design thinking workshop, touring through a tropical rainforest research center, and visiting a world-renowned sustainable agriculture university - it became clear that this trip will be a once-in-a-lifetime, transformative, educational experience for BHS students.
If you would like to follow the students’ experience before, during and after the trip so you, too, can see the impact of integrating global education in our curriculum. Below are several ways you can connect with their experience:
• The EF Global Student Leaders Summit Facebook page will be the hub for information, photos and student interaction around the entire Costa Rica trip. We encourage you to ‘like’ the page, so you receive updates regularly. However, it’s a public web page, so you don’t need to have a Facebook account to access it – just click the link!
EF will be Tweeting about the Global Student Leaders Summit from the EFTours Twitter handle. To follow along with the conversation, search for the hashtag #EFSummit.
These days, it seems like all of our students are using Instagram to post and share photos. EF will post photos from the Summit to the EF Tours Instagram account using the hashtag #EFSummit.
EF will live-stream several parts of the two-day summit on EF Tours’ YouTube Channel using the hashtag #EFSummit, including the opening keynote by Dr. Alvaro, exciting elements of Vice President Al Gore’s presentation and the conference’s closing remarks by environmentalist Severn Cullis-Suzuki. We encourage you to tune in!
Thank you for supporting the students and Ms. McInerney as they embark on an exciting, new educational journey in Costa Rica. After this ten-day trip, They'll come back with a new perspective on global environmental issues and the tools and motivation to make a difference in our local community.
