Dave Taranto Snaps 30-Year Old Mile Record As He Grabs Third State Title at D-3 Boys Track Championships

Members of the Burlington Boys track team competed at the D-3 State Championships in Pembroke on Saturday.

Leading the way for Burlington was senior David Taranto (pictured below), who earned the third state championship of his track career, winning the mile in 4:24.00 breaking Kevin Sullivan's 30 year old school record that he had tied just last week at the ML-12 Championships.

Sophomore Paul Hogan broke a school record as well with his 9:37.15 fourth place effort in the two mile. Hogan and Taranto were joined by juniors Mark Steinbach and Christos Saledas in the 4 x 800-meter relay, where their 8:18.37 was fourth best.

Other medalists for Burlington included Nico Blase (4th in the shot put at 46' 7"), Adam Bonfilio (5th in the high jump at 5' 10"), Takunda Muzembe (6th in the triple jump at 42' 4.5"), Nick Salvucci (8th in the high jump at 5' 10"), and Alex Alessi (8th in the shot put at 45' 7.5").

Other competitors for Burlington were Ahmad Osman (10:13.78 in the 2 mile), Bryan Miranda (441' 10.25" in the shot put), Muzembe (9' 3.5" in the long jump), Shaun McDonnell (143' 1" in the javelin), Nick Rose (118' 2" in the discus), Blase (116' 5" in the discus), Bonfilio (61.33 in the 400 meter hurdles and 16.11 in the 110 meter hurdles), and the 4 x 100 relay team of Muzember, Ev Guerrier, Marcus Odiah, and Dan McDermott (45.77).
