BEF Grant Brings Peter Turnley, World Renowned Photographer, To BHS April 4

Peter Turnley, World Renowned Photographer Visiting BHS:

Next Wednesday, April 4th, Peter Turnley will be visiting MSMS and speaking to the 8th graders about his career and life. Over the past two decades, Mr. Turnley has traveled to eighty-five countries and covered nearly every major news event of international significance, including many governmental uprisings and natural disasters. His photographs have been featured on the cover of Newsweek more than forty times. Mr. Turnley is also an accomplished speaker in the historical realm, having been given exclusive photo opportunities and interviews with many public figures, often leaders of reviled political regimes. Mr. Turnley will offer his photographic experiences as they relate to modern history.

MSMS is very excited about this special and rare event. In addition to presenting to MSMS, Mr. Turnley will also give a lecture entitled, “Life as a Photojournalist” later he will be at BHS in the photo room at 7 p.m.

Becoming an actual photographer was quite a serendipitous event. Peter was a star football athlete in his hometown of Fort Wayne, Indiana until knee surgery forced him to the sidelines. During his hospitalization, Peter’s parents gave him a book by the French photographer, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and at the age of 16, Peter Turnley discovered photography and became one of the world’s most respected and widely published photo journalists of the human condition and current events.
MSMS gives a special thanks to the BEF. Without their support, this event would not be possible.
