Facebook Settings - The Why and How Students Need To Check These!

Image representing Facebook as depicted in Cru...Image via CrunchBaseIt is old news by this point that students need to be wary of what they are putting on line.  There have been a number of articles and blog posts on this topic, including a few from the last couple of weeks:

College Recruiters Screen Applicants with Facebook Fridays - OneDublin.org October 5

College Admissions Officials Turn to Facebook to Research Students - YahooNews - October 11

College Admissions Officers Are Definitely Checking Your Facebook - Good.is  - October 13

With the above articles in mind, we decided to share the most recent information on updating Facebook privacy settings with students today. Thanks to the folks at ZDNet, we were able to pass along step-by-step directions via The Definitive Facebook Lockdown Guide.

We encourage students and their families to check out each of the five guides which contain graphics and clear details on securing key privacy information on the following:

  1. Secure Your Friends List
  2. Secure Your Profile Page
  3. Secure Your Account Settings
  4. Secure Your Privacy Settings
  5. Secure the Miscellaneous Bits
