Ms. Minty worked last year as an interim guidance counselor and we are thrilled to have her back as a fulltime staff member this year!
Can you tell us a little about your background?
I grew up in Waltham, MA and was a Counselor in Belmont prior to coming here last year. I hold a BA in clinical psychology from Smith College and an MA in counseling psychology from Lesley university. I also worked in the graduate school of education at Lesley for 5 years with student teachers and school systems prior to becoming a school counselor. Why did you become a guidance counselor?
I have been led toward counseling since I was an adolescent myself but decided to become a counselor in a school because I believe there's no better setting through which to reach young people. In a high school, students see their counselors for a variety of reasons including to talk about classes and future plans which allows them to feel more comfortable approaching me when something's really wrong. What appealed to you about Burlington High School?
When I lost my previous position due to budget cuts, my colleagues let me know about this position and told me of what a great school they knew this to be. I am grateful to be in a school that has such amazing resources and uses these to maximize student growth and safety.Tell us something interesting about yourself.
