BHS Guidance Counselor - Amanda Magnan
Ms. Magnan started as a substitute with us last year and we are happy to have her back this school year filling in for Ms. Smith.
Here are Ms. Magnan's responses to a few questions to help you get to know her a little better:
Can you tell us a little bit about your background?
I am from Saugus, Massachusetts and studied at Saint Michael's College in Burlington, Vermont. While at Saint Michael's, I studied abroad my Junior year in Fiji in the South Pacific. I received my Master's in Guidance Counseling I was involved in the Student Global AIDS campaign and traveled with a professor and 12 other students to Tanzania, Africa, where I stayed in an AIDS orphanage for 33 girls, writing a research grant to gain funding for the orphanage. Why did you become a teacher?
I became a teacher because I enjoy working with kids of all ages. I have worked at the elementary level also and I am very interested in being part of children's learning processes. I also love being a part of a school community in which everyone supports each other.
What appealed to you about Burlington High School?
I knew that Burlington was a great place to work as soon as I started here. I was impressed with the camaraderie that existed between the staff. I've also enjoyed getting to know the different students and their families through working in the Guidance Office, and Burlington seems to be a supportive community.
Tell us something interesting about yourself.
I have a twin sister named Allison who, coincidentally works in Burlington also. She is a clinical research associate.
