Winners Are Defined By More Than Final Scores (Here's A Great Example)

"Sports do not build character. They reveal it." John Wooden

You learn so much about people when things don't turn out the way they hoped.  It is a true testament to the character of an individual or team. I just received the e-mail below from Hopkinton High School Softball Coach Steve Simoes.  His team was phenomenal, entering last night's game with a 22-2 mark and outscoring opponents by an 15-2 margin in four post-season games.  We know that our 2-0 win could have easily gone either way, but more importantly we came away impressed with the way that the Hopkinton players, coaches, and fans conducted themselves during and after the game.  You can read more along these lines from the Metrowest Daily News. We hope we get a chance to meet with Hiller athletic program in the future! They are a class organization!

Mr. Larkin-

While I was unable to find direct addresses, I was hoping you could pass on my congratulations and best wishes to your varsity softball coaches and team. They were a deserved winner last night and represented your school in exemplary fashion. Coach Mahoney and her staff are clearly doing an incredible job with the young ladies. They were a pleasure to compete against and carried themselves with character and class.

All of us in the Hopkinton softball program wish them the best of luck on Saturday. Bring the title home to Eastern Mass.

Very sincerely,

Steve Simoes
Hopkinton Softball Coach

  1. Thank you for sharing this!! This is wonderful and absolutely depicts our students here at BHS. We're very lucky and especially blessed to be working with such great families and kids here in Burlington.
