BHS Opens New Turf Field Tonight - Thanks To All Who Made This Possible!
We are excited that we will finally see students on our new turf field tonight as Burlington hosts Wakefield in a Middlesex League Football matchup. In fact our BHS Marching Band got the bragging rights as the first students to step foot on the new field this afternoon (See clips above) as they rehearsed for tonight's opening night.
Everyone in Burlington should be thankful for this wonderful new resource which will serve all of our students from high school age down through the youth leagues. Our new artificial surface will increase access for all Burlington athletes who participate in football, soccer, field hockey and lacrosse. No longer will one rainy day make our Varsity Field an unplayable mess.
In addition we have, new bleachers which are safer and meet all handicap access requirements. The venue is certainly something that will serve the town for many years to come. Thanks go out to all of the Town Meeting members who voted for this project to support the youth and school sports programs in town! In addition, thank you to the Varsity Field Building Committee:
Rachel Joyce (BHS student-athlete), Mike DeSimone (School Committee), Steve Nelson (School Committee), Mike Hardy (Town Meeting Member), Joe Morandi (Burlington resident), Dave Cullen (Burlington Parent) Matt Carr (BHS Staff), Ed Gillis (BHS Athletic Director), and Craig Robinson (BPS Director of Finance/Operations).
