We Are Celebrating Ally Week This Week At BHS

I am proud to have an active Gay-Straight Alliance at BHS (our Spectrum Club).  While many of the nation's schools celebrated Ally Week last week, our school is celebrating it this week.  Our students are selling Ally bracelets and asking staff members to sign a pledge that their classrooms are Safe Spaces for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students and their allies.

There is also a pledge for students to sign which states:

I believe school should be safe, supportive places for all students, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.

This is why I pledge to:

  • Not use anti-LGBT language and slurs.
  • Intervene, if I safely can, in situations where students are being harassed.
  • Support efforts to makes this, and every, school safe for all students.
It is my hope that our students find allies every day at BHS and not just during Ally Week!

  1. On behalf of Spectrum, thanks for your continued support! It means so much to students to be supported by their peers, the staff and the administration. Our Ally Week continues through tomorrow, so we hope everyone in BHS will sign the pledge!
