BHS Boys and Girls State Delegates Announced

From Mr. Jeff Hoyt Social Studies Department Chair:

The Social Studies Department of Burlington High School is pleased to announce that once again the local units of the American Legion and Auxiliary (Post No. 273) will be sponsoring, respectively, two delegates to Boys State and two delegates to Girls State this year.  All four students are members of the junior class and have been nominated by their Social Studies teachers.

Boys State will be conducted at Stonehill College, Easton, MA, from Saturday, June 12, to Friday, June 18, 2010.  The Burlington delegates are Munish Gandevia and Kyle Sullivan.

Girls State will also be held at Stonehill College, Easton, MA, from  Sunday, June 13, to Friday, June 18, 2010. Representing B.H.S. will be Kalpita Patel and Courtney Tolliday.

The stated purpose of Boys and Girls State is to increase awareness in the rights and responsibilities of citizenship under our democratic form of government. Participants spend much of their week conducting model municipal and state governments.  They attend classes, hear guest speakers, and also have time scheduled for recreation and socialization.

Congratulations to the students and many thanks to the B.H.S. faculty for their continued professional cooperation in helping these students meet their end-of-year obligations with as much flexibility as possible.
