"The Sky Isn't Beyond Our Limits" - A Poem To Share From BHS Sophomore Sarah McAnespie

Thanks to BHS English Teacher Ms. Rebecca Skerry for sharing this poem from Sarah McAnespie, one of her sophomores.  The end of the school year is a time when we should take time to reflect on our individual and collective accomplishments.  This poem really helped me to get in reflective mindset! I hope you enjoy it.

The Sky Isn't Beyond Our Limits
Sarah McAnespie

The center of attention is always beautiful,
But that isn't what Burlington High aims for.
Everything is gorgeous, the flowers are bright, and the smiles are sparkling.
All the surroundings aim to please and no one should ever expect anything less of us as a
whole.
We represent our country; our flag pole, red, white and blue, reaches the sky
Proving we have set goals because the sky is the limit.
We cut down the old, bare barked trees
Because we're moving on with the old and in with the new,
The sky is grey, sad and lonely without clouds,
But the sun still shines through showing -
We have the power not to allow anyone to let us down.
We have paved this path as our runway,
There may be cracks, and there may be ditches, but we come daily
Just to show the world we know what life we want to lead, and
Prove to everyone our generation has not failed to please.
The sunshine is yellow, bright, and stunning;
We all have our moment where it's all on us;
The sun, fire, flames, burning, passion,
The history of our school has been strong, and everlasting, and we will keep going,
because everything is present, but it's a history in the making.

  4. Fantastic job, Sarah! Beautiful poem...I especially love the line "We have the power not to allow anyone to let us down" and the last line too. Both are simple, but often unspoken truths, that really make a person stop and reflect. Bravo!
