BHS Seniors Leave Quite A Legacy - From Coach Shvartsman

The Burlington Red Devil Wrestling team finished 2nd at the 2010 New England championships.
The highest finish for the Red Devils since 1983 when BHS won the tournament.

Timberlane NH finished 1st with 89 points.
Burlington finished 2nd with 75.5 points.
Cumberland RI finished 3rd with 69 points.

Timberlane qualified 11 wrestlers for the tournament, Cumberland qualified 7, Burlington qualified 4.

Matt Sherman won a New England title at 135 pounds.
Matt won all four matches beating Methuen's CJ Dohery 6-1 in the first round, Noble ME Jake Badger 8-5 in the second round, St. John Prep's TJ Crabtree 11-2 in the semi finals and Malden Catholic's Devin Visconti 2-1 in the finals. Matt is Burlington's 3rd New England Champ (Ricky Coveno '83, Jeremy Royds '95)

Jake Sherman finished 2nd at 125 pounds.
Jake beat Evan Fraser of Fairfield Warde CT 7-5 in the first round, Nonnewaug CT Tyler Tible 9-2 in the second round and Bridgewater Rayhnam's Matt Libby 4-1 in the semi finals.
Jake then lost to Mike Meyer of Warwick RI in the finals 9-1, Meyers was the defending New England champ.

Kevin Barrucci finished 2nd at 145 pounds. Kevin pinned Kaden O'Dell of Middlebury VT in 3:11 in the 1st round, South Kingston RI's Seth Noon by tech fall 15-0 in 4:50 in the second round and Pembroke Pat Claflin 12-0 in the semi's. Kevin then lost to defending New England champ Dan Telhada of Franklin 7-4 in the finals. Kevin is Burlington's first 3x New England place-winner.

Alex Giampapa won 2 matches at 189 pounds. After losing his first match in overtime to Bacon Academy CT's Aren Norman 4-2, Alex beat Steve Walsh of Brockton 8-0 and the pinned Central Falls RI's Emmanual Versallis in 2:15. Alex then lost to Springfield Central's Nate Collins 9-3.
Alex has been wrestling the last 3 weeks with a fully torn MCL and partially torn ACL and PCL in the knee.

This was a great performance by Burlington 4 seniors and we are very sad to lose the best senior class we ever had. Kevin Barrucci and the Sherman brothers finished there career 1, 2 and 3 in most wins in BHS wrestling history. Kevin Barrucci 196 - 33 career record, 3x state champ, 4x finalist, 3x All-State finalist, 3x New England placewinner, 2x Lowell Holiday champ
Matt Sherman 171 -28, 3x state champ, All-state champ, New England champ, 2x New England placewinner. Jake Sherman 169 - 27, 2x state champ, 4x placewinner, All-State champ, New England runner up.

Alex Giampapa 119 - 44, state champ, 2x finalist, 2x All-state placewinner. Along with Jason Hubbard (97 wins) and Pete Flemming (89 wins) this had been an amazing group of seniors.
