For this week's tech site of the week, I am focusing on Google Reader, one of the many amazing tools Google has to offer. I also want to mention Mr. Kampmann, a teacher in Sioux Falls, South Dakota for his great blogpost explaining Google Reader. I encourage you to check out his blog Technology For You and Your Classroom. He is a great new addition to my PLN (Personal Learning Network).
Here is his copy of his post on getting acquainted with Google Reader:
For my first suggestion of what teachers should use to better their teaching lives I chose Google Reader. The teacher’s biggest adversary is time. I have found that Google Reader is the best way to cut down on wasted time going from site to site looking to see if they have updated information.
Google Reader is a must for teachers. With so many educational resources available online, it is a necessity to use Google Reader to save time. While there are other RSS readers available, I like Google Reader for its ease of use. From the Google Reader Help page
Google Reader is a tool for gathering, reading, and sharing all the interesting blogs and websites you read on the web.
Most webpages have an RSS feed. Anything with an RSS feed can be added to Google Reader. Teachers can find this useful to organize their news information, educational site updates, blogs, or even their classroom blogs. Later I will discuss using student blogs and Google Reader will be a way to check student work.
For teachers that are into using twitter. Twitter profiles include a rss feed, which Google Reader can pick up.
Here are a couple sites to help with your introduction to Google Reader.
