Opening Day(s) of School Brings...

A couple of signs that we are quickly moving into our normal flow of activities here at BHS are clear by the fact that Mr. Sheehan (above left) and Mr. Sullivan (above right). Our two Associate Principals have been lonely thus far each morning as only a small number of students have had trouble making the adjustment from their summer hours to school hours. As Mr. Sheehan likes ask our stragglers - "Do you know what time we start work at this company?"

In the picture below, we have students at one of our opening day assemblies where we welcome back each class and let them know about handbook changes and procedural changes. In regards to those changes, we have a couple of items that we have been focusing on: 1. The Cell Phone Policy 2. Bathroom Procedures.

While these two items seem unrelated, I find it ironic that we would move towards a 21st Century policy on cell phone while keeping students locked out of bathrooms between classes (and sometimes during classes). Therefore, we have made a short step from the 20th Century to the 21st Century in regards to allowing cell phone use at lunch and at the classroom teacher's discretion in the classroom. Unfortunately, our move to unlocking bathrooms seems like a bigger leap back in time to the 18th or 19th Century. Anyway, we will continue to look in the mirror as to our practices to enhance our high school.

As always, we welcome feedback from all of our stakeholders.
