Last spring, public health regulators unanimously approved the screening of body mass index (BMI) in school children. Body mass index is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to both men and women. At the high school level, the regulations call for all 10th graders to be screened each year. Parents can opt to have their children not participate in this screening.
