First Place BHS Girls Gymnastics Squad Defeats Melrose For First Time In 10 Years


The BHS Girls Gymnastics team topped Melrose for the first time in a decade to remain unbeaten and on top in the Middlesex League standings. BHS won the meet by a final score of 137.65 to 134.75. "We have an amazing team with a lot of depth which is helping us become so successful." noted BHS coach Kerri Foley.


Here are some highlights: Captain (junior) Leighann Ellis competed all four events with a high score of 9.3 on beam. She also shined with a 9.1 vaulting score. Sophmore Cara DiPerna also pulled in outstanding scores. She earned BHS an 8.9 on bars and an 8.6 on beam.


Other highlights include Captain (Junior) Sonja Swanfeldt's 8.5 on vault, Casey Landry's (freshman) 8.3 on beam, Kristen MacIver (junior) 8.5 on beam, and freshman Alyssa Mitchell's 8.5 on floor. Finally, the team was helped by freshman Haley Vercollone's score of 8.35 on floor.


This was the third league win for the Lady Devils who have also defeated Wakefield and Winchester thus far. "All of the girls mentioned above have contributed a lot to each of our wins. We are looking forward to more in the future!" Foley added.
