Experiential Learning With Mr. Gustafson and Mr. Sweeney

My nervous smile prior to a ride down the zip line.

I had the pleasure of joining Mr. Gustafson and Mr. Sweeney and their sophomores during period 2 today on the Project Adventure course. The students accepted me and even allowed me to cut in line. Highlights of the class were a ride on the zip line and a walk across the high wire with a grape vine maneuver as I crossed paths with Solomon in mid-air.
Despite some initial concern about being 30-feet above the ground, I was put at ease by the two teachers as they reviewed safety procedures and double checked my harness and the harnesses of each student before each attempt at a new element. I was also fortune to have a Alan on the ground handling the belay (safety rope) in expert fashion.
During the 75-minute period, it became clear to me how fortunate we are to have this course and these two trained experts on staff. Mr. Gustafson and Mr. Sweeney had just returned from a four-day training at Project Adventure headquarters in Beverly. The energy, enthusiasm, and focus on safety protocols that they shared with all of us truly made this a great experience for both the class and the Principal. (See additional photos from the class below)
No one goes anywhere on the course without a safety check from Mr. G!
Alan was my anchor, making sure that I returned to the ground safely.
Mr. G reviewed the plan for the class .

Mr. Sweeney was ready to give me a hand if needed.
